Care Optometry was born out of an unmet need. I am Linda Nguyen, the owner and founder of this family business, hoping to make a dent in more accessible eye care.
I graduated in 2006 and spent a large part of this time as a locum optometrist (10 years actually). This meant experiencing life as an optometrist in many different clinic rooms. I have found that the majority of optometry clinics are designed to be compact and house bulky equipment (with lots of chin rests!). The stark reality is that most clinic rooms are not wheel chair friendly and for some, the equipment can be too difficult to access or use for a long period of time.
The penny dropped one day when my patient in a motorised mobility scooter attempted to navigate her way into the consultation room that I can only describe as a shoe box.
Impossible to get in, impossible to get out, impossible to turn and nearly impossible to assist her from her scooter onto the consultation chair safely. In spite of this, she was just glad to have made it at all, as the previous week she had missed her eye appointment completely due no taxis willing to pick her up.
Making eye care accessible and delivered with dignity is my passion. And meeting the patients who have already benefited from this service has made this journey totally worth it.
Home visits are most suitable for clients with mobility issues including those in aged care, disability facilities, certain medical conditions and our seniors. We provide our services within Sydney Metro and eye exams are performed at the ability and pace of the client.
If having an eye exam at a regular optometry clinic seems like an impossible feat for you (or your family member), please contact us to discuss your options. We would like to hear from you.
We also provide quality vision testing for children in various settings including daycare centres, schools and homes. The vision testing team is headed by Linda Nguyen (also Behavioural Optometrist from Eyecare Kids Children's Clinic) and her team of children's optometrists. We perform additional binocular vision testing to ensure that any child with vision related learning problems can be identified as early as possible.
We offer testing to children of all abilities including those who have been diagnosed as non-verbal or other developmental delay. Eye exams are performed at the child's ability and age appropriate level.
We understand that some children may have mobility issues, sensory processing difficulties and other scheduling issues. For families who may find it difficult to see their regular eye care providers, home testing provides these families a convenient alternative option. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We would be happy to help you.
