Our behavioural optometrist is experienced in helping patients with complex medical needs. We offer eye testing and guidance on visual rehabilitation pathways after brain injury and stroke.
Patients with brain injury can experience vision issues including reduced vision, increased glare, doubled vision, difficulties with orientation and mobility and spatial awareness. Eye health but also neuro-visual difficulties may be impacted.
- Our goal is to provide a comprehensive assessment to address the patient's concerns that may impact their daily living abilities and assist them in their rehabilitation journey.
- Examinations can be performed from a bed, wheelchair, or regular seating done at a pace that suits each individual’s needs and comfort.
- Our behavioural optometrist, Linda Nguyen, has extensive experience testing patients with complex medical issues and those who have experienced brain trauma. Linda has completed the following NDIS Quality & Safeguards modules: NDIS Induction Module and Supporting Effective Communication.
- A selection of disability-friendly spectacles is available to browse if needed, with adjustments made on the day and delivery by post.
- Comprehensive testing includes checks for vision and eye health, such as dry eyes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and more. Vision checks also include a binocular vision assessment to check for eye coordination and eye focussing issues.
- A Functional Vision Assessment Report is provided to help the client’s care team better understand their visual abilities and current limitations.
- Recommendations are tailored with the client’s capacity-building goals in mind.
- Vision therapy activities and/or medical tints may be recommended as part of your visual rehabilitation
We work closely with the client’s family, medical and allied health care team to ensure their eye care needs are fully understood and supported.
*Please note: at the current time, we are only servicing patients in rehabilitation hospitals (not general hospitals). Patient's should first check with their Medical Care Team for permissions for a visiting optometrist before booking appointment.
